Why this format?

Why convert MP4 to OGV for Choicer Voicer?

Modern MP4 files commonly use H.264 video, while Godot’s core video player is built around Ogg Theora. That is why the main video in a Choicer Voicer Dub Mode Pack is normally stored as dub_video.ogv. The conversion keeps the media local and gives you a file to place into your own Pack.

Quick workflow

How to convert MP4 to OGV

  1. Choose a short MP4 scene or drop it into the converter.
  2. Keep the Choicer Voicer filename option enabled when this is your main Dub Mode video.
  3. Start the local conversion and keep this tab open while Theora is encoded.
  4. Download the OGV, place it in the Pack root, and use the Dub Pack Checker before installing.

Short, moderate-resolution scenes are the best fit for browser conversion. OGV can be larger than MP4 at a similar visual quality because Theora is less efficient than newer video codecs.

Quick answers

MP4 to OGV FAQ

Why does Choicer Voicer use OGV?

Choicer Voicer uses Godot video playback, and Dub Mode Packs use Ogg Theora video in an OGV container. Convert the main video to OGV before adding it to a Pack.

Does this converter upload my MP4?

No. The conversion runs locally in your browser. The selected video is not uploaded to this site or Cloudflare R2.

Should the output be named dub_video.ogv?

For the main Dub Mode video, the game expects the basename dub_video. The converter selects that name by default, and you can turn it off for a general OGV conversion.

Why is my OGV larger than the MP4?

Theora is an older codec and is generally less compression-efficient than modern H.264. A similar-looking OGV can therefore be larger than its MP4 source.

Does this create a complete Dub Pack?

No. It only converts the video. Use the Dub Pack Maker to prepare a project, or the Dub Pack Checker to inspect the finished Pack structure.
